    • Tianmen Road, China, is one of the most spectacular roads in the world. With 99 hairpin bends zigzagging rapidly upwards from 200-1300m above sea level and some 11.3km/6.8miles long, it makes for truly demanding driving. So where better to test the performance credentials of the Range Rover Sport SVR.

In October 2017 we did just that and, in doing so, set a new benchmark on Tianmen Road, China.

Ho-Pin Tung, winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans and support driver for the Jaguar Formula E Team Racing, got behind the wheel of our most powerful Range Rover ever and took to the hills. With 575PS under its Carbon Fibre bonnet and an exhilarating acceleration of 0-100kmph in 4.5 seconds, Ho-Pin was soon putting the vehicle through its paces.

Refinement and performance are taken to new heights in Range Rover Sport SVR

One of Range Rover Sport SVR’s many unique features is its chassis, modified to deliver a more dynamic steering and handling experience. Its exhaust has been finely tuned to deliver a gutsy, throaty SVR sound that does much to amplify its sporting credentials. These are further enhanced by the choice of new lightweight wheels, available in either 21” or 22” options. For the first time there is also the option of a Carbon Fibre Exterior Pack. This striking addition leaves the centre of the bonnet exposed in Carbon Fibre, adding an even greater dramatic presence to the vehicle’s appearance. Lightweight performance seats in Windsor leather, with new duo-tone seat design and pattern, give the cockpit a similar character. Whilst SVR badging throughout helps exude a sense of contemporary sophistication.

Sure-footed and agile, Range Rover Sport SVR corners like no other Land Rover

Some 9 minutes and 51 seconds after setting off, Ho-Pin crossed the line at the end of the 11.3km drive to find that Range Rover Sport SVR had not only handled the road with consummate ease, but also unofficially driven into the record books; beating the previous record of 10 minutes 31 seconds – set by a Ferrari 458 Italia in 2016.

Range Rover Sport SVR conquered Tianmen Road with ease

Proving that, wherever in the world our vehicles face a challenge, they always rise to it and, at times, even go above and beyond it.
