CLASSIC DEFENDER V8: EXPLORING THE NEW DOUBLE CAB PICK-UP AND BESPOKE CUSTOMISATION OPTIONS

The Land Rover Classic Defender V8 continues to celebrate one of the most iconic 4x4 vehicles ever created, combining authentic Defender character with hand-built craftsmanship, modern enhancements and extensive personalisation options. The latest showcase from Land Rover Classic demonstrates just how far that customisation can go, while also introducing two new body styles that give enthusiasts even more ways to create their ideal Classic Defender.

Commissioned by a single client, a unique collection of four remastered Classic Defender V8 models highlights the possibilities available through Land Rover Classic's Works Bespoke service. Alongside this striking collection, the introduction of the Classic Defender V8 Double Cab Pick-Up opens a new chapter for one of the most sought-after Defender body styles.

What is the Classic Defender V8?

The Classic Defender V8 is a fully restored and remastered vehicle created by Land Rover Classic, the official home of classic Land Rover restoration and heritage vehicles.

Each example begins life as an original Defender produced between 2012 and 2016 before being carefully rebuilt by specialist engineers and craftspeople. The result is a vehicle that preserves the timeless appeal of the original Defender while benefitting from enhanced performance, upgraded components and modern technology.

Powered by a 405PS V8 engine and developed with specially engineered performance upgrades, the Classic Defender V8 delivers a driving experience that honours the original while meeting the expectations of modern collectors and enthusiasts.

A unique collection of Bespoke Classic Defender V8 models

To showcase the creativity and craftsmanship available through Works Bespoke, Land Rover Classic recently completed a collection of four matching Classic Defender V8 vehicles for a single customer.

The collection includes a Defender 90 Station Wagon, Defender 90 Soft Top, Defender 110 Station Wagon and the newly introduced Defender 110 Double Cab Pick-Up. Together, they demonstrate how owners can personalise almost every aspect of their vehicle.

One of the most distinctive features of the collection is its exclusive Spectral Green paint finish. Depending on lighting conditions and viewing angles, the colour shifts between green, purple and gold, creating a dramatic visual effect that changes throughout the day.

The finish extends beyond the bodywork to include the wheels, exterior badging and selected interior trim elements, showcasing the attention to detail that defines Land Rover Classic commissions.

What is Works Bespoke?

Works Bespoke is Land Rover Classic's customisation programme, allowing clients to create highly personalised versions of the Classic Defender V8.

Working directly with Land Rover Classic designers, engineers and craftspeople, customers can tailor everything from paint colours and interior materials to wheel designs and exterior finishes.

Owners can even commission custom paint colours inspired by personal items, favourite locations, family heirlooms or vehicles already in their collection. This collaborative approach ensures that every Classic Defender V8 can be uniquely tailored to reflect its owner's individual tastes and lifestyle.

The new Defender 110 Double Cab Pick-Up

One of the most significant additions to the Classic Defender V8 programme is the introduction of the Defender 110 Double Cab Pick-Up.

Long admired by Defender enthusiasts, the Double Cab combines the practicality of a pick-up truck with the iconic design and durability associated with the Defender name.

With four doors, five seats and a dedicated load area, the body style offers greater versatility for customers who want the character of a classic Defender alongside the flexibility to carry equipment, luggage or outdoor gear.

The addition of the Double Cab provides another option for customers commissioning a Classic Defender V8, broadening the range beyond the existing Station Wagon and Soft Top body styles.

New body style choices for Classic Defender V8

Alongside the Double Cab Pick-Up, Land Rover Classic has also introduced the Defender 90 Hard Top as a commissioning option.

The compact two-seat configuration offers a more utilitarian interpretation of the Defender and joins an expanding portfolio of body styles that now includes the Defender 90 Station Wagon, Defender 90 Soft Top, Defender 90 Hard Top, Defender 110 Station Wagon and Defender 110 Double Cab Pick-Up.

This wider selection allows customers to choose a vehicle that best suits their lifestyle, whether they are seeking a practical utility vehicle, an adventure-focused off-roader or a collectible weekend vehicle.

Modern technology meets Classic Defender design

While the Classic Defender V8 preserves the appearance and personality of the original vehicle, Land Rover Classic has continued to introduce carefully integrated technology upgrades.

A newly available nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system brings modern connectivity to the Classic Defender without compromising its heritage-inspired design.

Integrated into a bespoke fascia, the system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside Bluetooth connectivity, DAB digital radio and enhanced audio controls. A discreetly integrated reversing camera option is also available, improving convenience and everyday usability.

These updates help owners enjoy modern technology while retaining the authentic character that makes the Classic Defender so distinctive.

Bespoke interior craftsmanship

The featured four-vehicle collection also highlights the premium interior finishes available through the Classic Defender V8 programme.

Each vehicle features semi-aniline Bridge of Weir Vanilla leather, complemented by contrast green stitching inspired by the exterior paintwork. Premium materials continue throughout the cabin, including leather-bound carpets and bespoke detailing that reinforces the handcrafted nature of every commission.

The result is an interior that combines luxury and durability while remaining true to Defender's adventurous spirit.

More ways to personalise a Classic Defender V8

Land Rover Classic has further expanded the range of available finishes and accessories for customers seeking additional levels of personalisation.

New roof colours and wheel finishes allow for greater exterior customisation, while the Trophy Pack introduces contrasting design elements inspired by classic expedition vehicles. These additions provide owners with even more opportunities to create a Classic Defender V8 that reflects their individual style.

Combined with the extensive possibilities available through Works Bespoke, the programme offers one of the most comprehensive customisation experiences available for a heritage vehicle.

Why the Classic Defender V8 continues to appeal

The Classic Defender V8 occupies a unique position in the automotive world. It combines the authenticity of a genuine Defender with the reassurance of a factory-backed restoration programme and carefully integrated modern enhancements.

For collectors, enthusiasts and long-time Defender fans, it offers the opportunity to own a hand-built version of one of Land Rover's most iconic vehicles while tailoring it to personal tastes.

With the addition of the Defender 110 Double Cab Pick-Up, new technology upgrades and expanded personalisation options, the Classic Defender V8 programme continues to evolve, ensuring that every commission is as individual as the people who drive them.
