Jaguar Land Rover has received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. The award has been given in recognition of the reduction of environmental impact of its productions and its operations.
Measures employed by Jaguar Land Rover include the ‘whole lifecycle’ approach to vehicle development which aims to reduce the environmental impact right from the use of raw materials through to a vehicle’s eventual disposal, an approach that has lowered the EU fleet’s CO2 emissions by 25% since 2007.
Other methods employed include leading the way in aluminium-intensive vehicles and the pioneering use of closed-loop processes to drive recycled content, subsequently reducing vehicle weight and in turn reducing environmental impact.
A continued investment for the company has been in Hybrid technology, developing it to a standard which ensures vehicles do not compromise on their all terrain capabilities while employing lower emission technology.
Other initiatives such as the reduction of operational energy, waste and water the building of a new manufacturing centre with a solar roof which provides 30% of the site’s energy, a sector-leading corporate responsibility scheme and a business approach which works to address the UK’s skills gap with a training and skills programme aimed at young people, further demonstrates Jaguar Land Rover’s commitment to a sustainable future.
Dr Ralf Speth, the company’s CEO, said, "Jaguar Land Rover is honoured to receive this 2015 Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. We are focused on growing a long-term, sustainable business, as leaders in environmental innovation and making a positive impact on society.”
This is the 14th Queen’s Award that Jaguar and Land Rover combined have received since 1967. This year’s award follows the 2014 Award for International Trade, recognition of Jaguar Land Rover’s outstanding growth in overseas sales.
