We uncovered Spain’s greatest drives from behind the wheel of a Land Rover, sampled the finest Catalonian wines and lost ourselves in the mountainous beauty of Montserrat.

MOUNTAINS, VALLEYS AND VINEYARDS

Our Spanish adventure took us from the magnificence of Barcelona to the rugged beauty of Monserrat. Well known as one of Spain’s greatest drives, it more than lived up to its promise with drama and delight in equal measure.

From Barcelona, we headed out towards the pink granite peaks of the Monserrat mountains.

Our destination was Les Comes Estate, home to 60km of off-road terrain, and in particular Les Fontetes gully. This 1km stretch has a reputation to make off-road experts whisper in awe. It was used in the qualifying stages for The Camel Trophy and the G4 Challenge. If there was ever a test to show off the Land Rover Discovery’s talents this was it.
A low-gear rock crawl and nerves of steel were required.

We rewarded ourselves with a spectacular climb up through the rocky passes where the Discovery’s smooth handling and effortless power came to the fore.

At 1,200 metres we reached the Monastery of Monserrat. From here the Catalonian countryside is spread out below, and there are breathtaking views across to Barcelona.

Spain. As surprising as it is rewarding. Our adventure showed us both sides – the toughest terrain along with the warmest welcome.
