We journeyed off the beaten track through the remarkable Atlas Mountains in the comfort of the worlds most capable vehicle. We explore the cavernous souks of Marrakech, stayed in luxury accommodation and sampled the sumptuous local cuisine.
Morocco might be tantalisingly close to Europe as it reaches out from the North of Africa towards the Strait of Gibraltar, but nothing could feel less like home than this cacophony of colour and culture.
Winding through the narrow streets and alleyways of the old medina in Marrakech was the first test before we headed out to the vast emptiness of the desert. The rugged terrain and searing heat made the comfort and refinement of The Discovery’s cabin all the more welcome.
Then it was on to the impossibly beautiful but barely made roads into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Stretched out below us we could see the shimmering sands of the desert, and above us the snow-capped peaks of the mountains.
An exhilarating and exotic adventure in a land of colour and contrasts.
