Land Rover, South Africa has announced Springbok Rugby Captain, John Smit as a brand ambassador for the Rugby World Cup 2011.
Smit, South Africa’s most capped forward in Springbok history and International rugby legend together with Bryan Habana, will represent the Land Rover brand in support of their global partnership with the Rugby World Cup.
“John Smit has played a significant role in international rugby and he is already one of our Land Rover owners so a natural progression for us was to bring him on board as a brand ambassador. The global Land Rover team has worked hard to secure our affiliation with the Rugby World Cup 2011 as we believe the fans of the game can be as passionate about our brand,” said Kevin Flynn, Managing Director of Land Rover South Africa. Flynn continued “Our strategy is to be able to align with international rugby well beyond this years’ Rugby World Cup and our decision to partner with our South African rugby heroes forms part of a long term local plan.”
Smit is already a Land Rover vehicle owner so the decision to make the relationship official presented a perfect opportunity for Land Rover South Africa. “Land Rover is a brand that I have resonated with for many years already – their style, their reputation, their products and brand lifestyle are all qualities I look for in a partnership and try to identify myself by,” said Smit. “Although our relationship is officially only in its infancy stages, this affiliation began way before now and will continue to grow in the future.” Smit concluded.
