Jaguar Land Rover South Africa Announces The Launch Of Their Accelerated Artisan Training Program

MARCH, 12, 2010

Jaguar Land Rover South Africa continues its commitment to invest in the future of the automotive industry and the engineering talent of tomorrow with the launch of their new Jaguar Land Rover South Africa Accelerated Artisan Training Programme. One of our main objectives is to develop people that have a passion for motor vehicles and show a strong affinity towards the electronic and mechanical field with the Jaguar and Land Rover Brands. This is a brand specific programme in accordance with Merseta requirements and facilitated by Equal Career Services.

The Accelerated Artisan Training Programme is an excellent way of ensuring that we have highly trained and skilled technicians in our dealerships to support the sophisticated and complex level of technology found in our vehicles. We have seen significant improvements in customer satisfaction in the customer service area but as our vehicles continue to feature more and more complex technologies we are pushing for further developments.

The Accelerated Apprentice Training Programme has been developed in line with the Merseta AATP (Accelerated Artisan Training Programme) requirements, combining it with the uniquely developed Jaguar Land Rover curriculum, known as the Jaguar Land Rover Honours Programme.  The accelerated format of the apprentice programme fast-tracks artisan development through up-front institutional training until all competencies have been achieved in a simulation environment, followed by workplace exposure over the required number of weeks (80 – 90 weeks). Candidates who wish to participate in the programme should have a matric qualification with mathematics and science as subjects. Not only will they be exposed to technical skills training, but they will also undergo soft-skills training enabling them to develop and grow within the dealer organizational structure.

“All applicants went through intensive assessments that allowed for the selection of the twelve top candidates from all disciplines״, said Dewald van Bergen, Jaguar Land Rover South Africa Customer Services Operations Manager. "We hope to expand this intake to accommodate twenty apprentices in 2011." After spending an initial period at the Academy to prepare the new apprentices for the working world, they will be placed at participating Jaguar Land Rover franchised dealers, continuing with on-the-job training.

What remains unchanged is our commitment to strengthen the dealer network. Exceeding customer expectations is a priority. The commitment of dealer principals and management in supporting the training programmes offered is key to the success of the programme.

Recruitment for the second intake will start during the 3rd quarter of this year and Jaguar Land Rover has already approached various schools in this regard. Further information can be obtained by visiting www.lrapprentice.co.za

The Jaguar Land Rover Training Academy is a Merseta Accredited training facility (reg 17-QA/ACC/0441/09) and is currently in the process of acquiring further Merseta accreditation as an Assessment Facility.
