Responsibility

We are proud to be a Responsible Business. We recognize that valuing and protecting the environment and the communities in which we operate, is critical to a successful future.

Indeed, our progress in this area has recently been recognized. Jaguar Land Rover have been named ‘Responsible Business of the Year 2013’ - the UK’s top accolade in this field, awarded by Business in the Community.

This is an on-going commitment and one we’re working to deliver across every aspect of our business:

Product Efficiency

Through innovation and technology, we’re discovering new ways to create supremely capable SUVs designed with the future in mind.

Over the last five years, we have helped drive a 22% reduction in the average tailpipe emissions across the Jaguar Land Rover European fleet and by the end of 2015 we are looking to help further reduce this, to achieve 25%.

One of the key tools we are using is the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This industry-recognized process sees us examining every aspect of a vehicle, from design to end of life, helping us identify ways to reduce overall environmental impact, whilst increasing performance and capability.

It’s an approach that’s leading to a new generation of efficient vehicles. For example, the All-New Range Rover features a 3.0 litre V6 engine, which – coupled with our lightweight Aluminium technology - delivers the same performance as the outgoing V8 model.

Sustainable Manufacturing

We are developing sustainable manufacturing operations around the world. Taking a whole new approach to maximize efficiency and minimize waste:

We’ve already made great strides in cutting water usage, energy consumption and waste to landfill. And, as we seek to further reduce our impact on the environment, we’re making sure our facilities meet the highest global standards (such as BREEAM).

For example: Reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, at our Whitley engineering facility, we estimate that our solar panels will save over 500 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Meanwhile, using aerospace industry techniques to bond the monocoque shell of our All-New Range Rover is helping us run an assembly shop that uses 75% less power than a weld-intensive steel workshop.

Corporate Social Responsibility

We firmly believe that “Part of being a responsible business is creating the right opportunities for people to make a positive change." (Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr Ralf Speth)

In 2013, Jaguar Land Rover launched a new Global Corporate Social Responsibility program to create opportunities for 12 million people in our local and global communities by 2020.

This far-reaching program builds on years of work with Land Rover’s key partners; such as the Born Free Foundation and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, to support projects that deliver long-term change, for our local and global communities.

In Italy, for example, we’re supporting the Italian Red Cross to provide practical support to homeless people in Milan and Rome. Whilst in Kenya, we're working with ClimateCare to offer families a better quality of life and more time for education by supporting the distribution of LifeStraw units, delivering clean water at home to more than 700,000 people.

We’re also providing thousands of people in rural South Africa with the chance of a better life by supplying mosquito nets to cut malaria rates by 75%.

Young people are a key focus of our CSR program. Since 1999, more than two million students have taken part in the ‘Inspiring Tomorrow’s Engineers’ program, which promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects in schools through initiatives such as the ‘Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge’. And now our Advanced Apprenticeships are helping to transform young people’s passion for technology into career opportunities.

We have ambitious targets, but through continued innovation and investment, we will create a more sustainable future.
