Range Rover Heritage
RANGE ROVER
In the mid 1960s, Land Rover became convinced that the market for a more luxurious four wheel drive vehicle was about to take off. And so began Land Rover´s mission to develop a vehicle which would combine saloon car levels of performance, handling, ride comfort and refinement with all the ruggedness and 4x4 ability of a Land Rover.

In the beginning
By the mid 1960s, with the Land Rover firmly established as a functional design classic, the recently formed New Vehicle Projects division visited America on a research trip. Design of the Range Rover was the outcome. Born of Land Rover´s bold thinking, it was unveiled to the media in June 1970 and enjoyed immediate acclaim. Range Rover´s launch was considered a critical success, and it was hailed as the first genuinely multi-purpose vehicle – a practical load-carrier that could also double as a long-distance express.
1980s evolution
The first half of the 1980s saw many changes and improvements to this world-leading vehicle. As well as the addition of a four-door model, a more luxurious approach gradually came to the fore and the vinyl seats and hose-out interior of the original Range Rover were replaced by air-conditioning and superior levels of trim. The Vogue edition came to symbolise the ultimate Range Rover package of assured quality that we know so well today.
1990´s generation
A second-generation Range Rover was introduced in 1994. Its new body combined styling cues from the original with a more contemporary shape, while mechanical changes embraced new, more powerful versions of the faithful V8 engine.
21st Century Range Rover
In 2001, New Range Rover was launched. It is easily the most capable luxury vehicle in the world, with new chassis, new suspension, new drivetrain and new styling. New Range Rover is continuing the remarkable story of a remarkable vehicle.
