TRANSMISSION & DRIVING DYNAMICS

Independent suspension delivers superb on-road dynamics with handling that is both rewarding and responsive, as well as a ride that is comfortable whatever the surface. Long wheel travel adds to Freelander 2's capability off-road, while its positive steering and compact turning circle of 11.3m ensure excellent control and manoeuvrability in the tightest situations.

A six-speed automatic transmission with CommandShift® provides all the advantages of an automatic transmission and also allows the driver to make manual sequential changes, and Sport mode offers even livelier performance.

Terrain Response® Terrain Response®

Tackle tough conditions confidently with Land Rover's patented Terrain Response® technology . The Terrain Response system allows the driver to select one of four settings appropriate to the conditions – Grass/Gravel/Snow, for example, and adjusts the vehicle’s powertrain and traction control systems to maintain momentum.
The Terrain Response system is as useful on-road as it is off-road. It adds to the on-road capabilities of Freelander 2, allowing you to maximise your vehicle’s potential to go further and see more - all with outstanding control.

Hill Descent Control (HDC) Hill Descent Control (HDC)

When selected, Hill Descent Control (HDC) engages with the release of the footbrake and improves control on steep or slippery descents. Working in conjunction with HDC, Land Rover's Gradient Release Control (GRC) ensures smooth hill starts, through progressive release of the brakes, whether ascending or descending.

Four wheel drive Four wheel drive

For superior traction, the electronic centre coupling at the heart of Freelander 2’s intelligent four-wheel drive system adapts continuously and instantaneously to the conditions.

Push button start Push button start

The convenient Passive Start system automatically detects the close proximity of the key, allowing use of the Start/Stop button without the key being docked in the vehicle.

  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

Anti-lock Braking System helps prevent the wheels locking up under heavy braking and on slippery surfaces allowing the driver to maintain control.

WHEEL OPTIONS

All terrain capability is at the heart of all Land Rover products. The tyres have been specifically engineered to provide outstanding performance at all times, in almost all conditions.
As the all-terrain experts, Land Rover have gone ‘above and beyond’ in testing and development to ensure that the right tyre is provided for maximum traction.
Tyres have an ‘all season capability’, whilst specific tyres have a balance of attributes that may affect their performance in certain circumstances. The size of the wheel and tyre chosen also has a bearing on the vehicle’s performance. Please bear in mind the intended usage of the vehicle when choosing wheel and tyre combinations.

SAFETY AND SECURITY

As Standard with this model of Freelander 2 SE
Electronic Traction Control (ETC) Electronic Traction Control (ETC)

Electronic Traction Control (ETC) is a sophisticated stability control system that senses when wheel slip is occurring and uses the braking system to minimise wheel spin.

Perimetric alarm Perimetric alarm
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)

By controlling the brake forces between the front and rear wheels, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) provides predictable braking under different load conditions.

Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)

Emergency situations can take you by surprise, requiring you to stop your vehicle quickly. The Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) system detects emergency braking then instructs the electronic brake actuator to increase hydraulic pressure to help improve your stopping distance.

Airbags Airbags

Seven airbags are fitted as standard and play a key role in helping to safeguard all occupants. Driver and front passenger airbags provide head and chest protection while side airbags offer protection from lateral impacts. Full-length curtain airbags provide head impact and rollover ejection protection for all occupants while a driver's inflatable knee bolster provides additional lower body protection.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)

Dynamic Stability Control is designed to correct over- or under-steer. The system interacts with the engine and the brakes to help maintain stability.

Cornering Brake Control (CBC) Cornering Brake Control (CBC)

Cornering Brake Control (CBC) feeds additional brake force to the outside front wheel when cornering. This minimises the risk of rear-end breakaway when braking hard.

Roll Stability Control (RSC) Roll Stability Control (RSC)

While no technology can remove the need for safe driving practice, the Roll Stability Control (RSC) system can help the driver to maintain vehicle control and balance. If the system senses that the vehicle is approaching a tipping point, it will reduce engine power and use the ABS to increase the turn radius to help reduce the likelihood of roll-over.

  • Remote central locking with drive away locking

The remote control includes the following functions: locking and unlocking of the doors and tailgate, a 30 second courtesy headlamp delay and activation of alarm.

  • Two ISOFIX child seat anchorage points

CONVENIENCE AND LOADSPACE FEATURES

Life with Freelander 2 is so practical thanks to thoughtful technology features available.

As Standard with this model of Freelander 2 SE
Cruise Control Cruise Control

Operated via buttons on the steering wheel, cruise control allows the driver to select a speed, which it will then maintain, smoothly and without using the brake pedal or accelerator. The system is indispensable on long journeys. The system can be overridden manually either via the steering wheel buttons, or by the accelerator and brake pedals.

Rear Parking Aid Rear Parking Aid

When reverse is selected, four ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper are activated automatically. The audible warning tones help you to manoeuvre when parking.

Front Parking Aid Front Parking Aid

When reverse is selected, four ultrasonic sensors in the front bumper are activated automatically (with the rear sensors). The audible warning tones help you to manoeuvre when parking, and when driving forward into a limited space the system can be operated manually.

Environmental Responsibility

We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously with an integrated and innovative strategy we call Our Planet. Our plan is simple; to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and the production of man-made CO2 emissions, to use fewer resources and create less waste.

We do this by investing in four key areas areas designed to reduce our carbon footprint, support conservation and humanitarian collaborations and includes one of the world’s most comprehensive CO2 offset programmes.

  • CO2-offsetting-194x97

    CO2 Offsetting

Investing in renewable energy, technology change and energy efficiency projects. As well as offsetting CO2 emissions from the manufacturing assembly of Range Rover and Land Rover vehicles, our programme means customers can also offset the first 45,000 miles of driving their new Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles.
