The all-new Range Rover received an award for Technology and Innovation for the all-new aluminum chassis and Auto Terrain Response at the Bloomberg TV Autocar India Awards 2013.
It is the world’s first all-aluminium monocoque SUV, using a similar spaceframe system as the Jaguar XJ. What this means is that this full-size SUV is lighter by as much as 420kg than the outgoing car. This has allowed for better performance, handling, fuel economy and emissions, important for an SUV-exclusive carmaker like Land Rover.
The other prime component of any Range Rovers DNA is its off-road ability, and this car debuts the latest generation of the companys Terrain Response system. It now comes with an automatic mode that uses NASA-rivalling computing power to tailor everything from the air suspension, to the electronic diffs, the engine, gearbox and the four-wheel drive system to whatever surface you can throw at it.
This car takes the thinking out of rock-crawling now that is luxury off-roading.
