TRANSMISSION & DRIVING DYNAMICS

The Range Rover’s supreme all-terrain capability goes a stage further with Terrain Response® 2. The system monitors ground conditions to determine the most appropriate response to the terrain and automatically optimises vehicle settings for an enhanced and assured experience for almost all driving conditions. Intelligent 4WD helps maintain outstanding performance on and off-road, while Adaptive Dynamics (as standard) improves handling and refines ride quality. Transmission quality is smooth, effortless and has improved fuel efficiency.

As Standard with this model of All-New Range Rover HSE

Multiple modes are provided as standard, including: access, normal on-road, off-road and extended height. A new extra intermediate setting adds greater convenience and improves handling across the vehicle’s breadth of capabilities. Load leveling is automatic.

Adaptive Dynamics Adaptive Dynamics

Advanced, intelligent suspension technologies assist the Range Rover’s performance and achieve consistent driving refinement, on and off-road. Adaptive Dynamics continuously analyse vehicle movements over 500 times per second, reacting instantaneously to road conditions and driver actions. Infinitely variable dampers adjust to maintain a composed and balanced ride.

Eight-speed Automatic Transmission Eight-speed Automatic Transmission

The Eight Speed Automatic Gearbox provides smooth transmissions and fast responses combined with improved fuel efficiency. Press the start button and the Drive Select Rotary Shifter rises from the centre console. The driver can also manually select gears via the Paddle Shift controls on the steering wheel.

Terrain Response® Terrain Response®

The Range Rover supports driver control and confidence across almost all surfaces and conditions: at the flick of a switch, patented Terrain Response® technology instantly reconfigures transmission, suspension, and traction settings for maximum drivability in almost all conditions. Gradient Acceleration Control prevents excessive speed downhill, and Hill Start Assist prevents the vehicle from inadvertently rolling backwards.

Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS)

The Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system helps to delivers accurate, consistent steering and agile cornering. Power assistance is speed-sensitive so the steering is light and responsive at lower speeds and firmer at higher speeds.

Permanent Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Permanent Four Wheel Drive (4WD)

Featuring the proven full-time intelligent 4WD system as standard, the Range Rover is the pinnacle of refined capability and performance across all terrains. It has a 50/50 torque split and a two-speed transfer box for high and low range options, helping to maintain traction and stability in challenging conditions on-road, off-road, or when towing.

Roll Stability Control (RSC) Roll Stability Control (RSC)

Roll Stability Control (RSC) helps the driver to maintain vehicle control and balance. If the system senses that the vehicle is approaching a tipping point, it will reduce engine power and use the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to help mitigate the chance of a roll-over.

Electronic Traction Control (ETC) Electronic Traction Control (ETC)

Electronic Traction Control (ETC) reduces torque to an individual wheel should it lose traction. It then applies braking to the wheel, if required, to maintain grip.

Hill Descent Control (HDC®) Hill Descent Control (HDC®)

Hill Descent Control (HDC) is designed to restrict speed to a set limit downhill using the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) for effortless, confident descents.

Cornering Brake Control (CBC) Cornering Brake Control (CBC)

As an active safety system, Cornering Brake Control (CBC) helps to maintain stability when cornering by adjusting the driver’s generated brake pressure.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) helps maintain control in challenging situations by reducing engine torque and applying braking to the appropriate wheel and correcting under-steer or over-steer.

  • Command Driving Position

The classic Command Driving Position gives the Range Rover a 90mm height advantage over other premium SUVs. This clear-sighted control and confidence is further enhanced by the sunken bonnet profile for excellent forward vision, plus improved upward vision of overhead traffic lights.

  • Stop/Start

Helping to improve fuel consumption and reduce CO₂ emissions in traffic, the system intelligently stops the engine when you come to a halt and keep your foot on the brake pedal. When you're ready to move off, move your foot from the brake pedal and the system will re-start the engine.

  • Twin Speed Low Range Transfer Gearbox
  • Diesel misfuel protection device
  • Electronic stability program

Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) helps maintain vehicle stability by detecting the loss of steering control and automatically applying braking to the wheels to minimise loss of control.

  • Reactive Grounding Response

When used off road, Reactive Grounding Response automatically adjusts to an off road height. Should the vehicle ground, it will automatically raise the suspension itself 35mm to clear the obstacle. If the vehicle is still unable to the move, up to another 35mm lift can be achieved by pressing and holding the raise button for the air suspension, that’s a total of c.70mm, which should be enough to clear the obstruction.

  • Trailer Stability Control

Trailer Stability Control (TSC) detects when a dangerous trailer sway situation is developing, and helps to regain control by gradually reducing speed through cutting engine power and applying the brakes.

  • Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)

Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) controls the distribution of brake forces between front and rear wheels to help ensure the optimum use of the rear brakes based on vehicle load.

  • Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)

If the driver applies insufficient braking force during an emergency stop, Emergency brake assist (EBA) is designed to automatically increase brake pressure to ensure maximum deceleration.

Environmental Responsibility

We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously with an integrated and innovative strategy we call Our Planet. Our plan is simple; to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and the production of man-made CO2 emissions, to use fewer resources and create less waste.

We do this by investing in four key areas areas designed to reduce our carbon footprint, support conservation and humanitarian collaborations and includes one of the world’s most comprehensive CO2 offset programmes.
