Defender’s immensely strong chassis is built to a box section, ladder frame design. It makes a major contribution to the vehicle’s versatility, durability and capability . The chassis architecture also lends itself to straightforward specialist adaptation and conversion for our 110 and 130 Chassis Cabs.
Defender’s 2.2 litre diesel engine produces an impressive 360Nm of torque. With 90 percent of peak power constantly on tap from as low as 2,200rpm to over 4,350rpm, it provides maximum muscle for tough working environments.
In keeping with the vehicle’s iconic status as a truly global product, a unique engine tune has been developed which allows it to tolerate the variable quality, high-sulphur fuels to be found across some emerging markets*. To cope with the sort of difficult progress that many operations demand, when the engine is working hard at low speed, around 1,000rpm, Land Rover’s innovative Anti-Stall device intelligently adjusts the fuel required to help keep everything running smoothly.

The lightweight aluminium body* not only helps to improve fuel consumption, it also increases payload, the vehicle’s capability, and gives an optimum trade-off between form and function.
*Doors and Bonnets are made from corrosion resistant steel.
Beyond Defender’s traditional Solid colour palette (Fuji White, Tamar Blue and Keswick Green) a wide range of vibrant Metallic finishes are also available including two striking Premium colours, Barolo Black and Havana. Please check availability with your Land Rover Dealer.
As experts in off-road capability, Land Rover offer a wide range of tyres with differing performance characteristics allowing you to choose the tyre that best suits your requirements.
All terrain capability is at the heart of all Land Rover products. The tyres have been specifically engineered to provide outstanding performance at all times, in almost all conditions.
As the all-terrain experts, Land Rover have gone ‘above and beyond’ in testing and development to ensure that the right tyre is provided for maximum traction.
Tyres have an ‘all season capability’, whilst specific tyres have a balance of attributes that may affect their performance in certain circumstances. The size of the wheel and tyre chosen also has a bearing on the vehicle’s performance. Please bear in mind the intended usage of the vehicle when choosing wheel and tyre combinations.
Right for the job and for making the right impression. A selection of stylish, durable trim combinations are available for practicality, comfort and even a touch of luxury.
Please check with your local dealer for availability.
The seats are arranged stadium style, their position maximising exterior vision and easing access. Designed to be comfortable and supportive whatever the task or terrain, each seat has a three-point safety harness, but can be folded to optimise the Defender’s load-carrying versatility. There’s space for smaller items too, in trays on the facia or between the front seats. The optional cubby box provides extra storage and includes two cup holders.
Inspired by 21st century industrial design, the Defender facia is simple, robust and practical. The instrument cluster is dominated by the rev counter and speedometer dials and a third instrument enclosing water temperature and fuel level gauges.
For maximum control both on and off-road, Defender is available with ABS (excluding 130 models). Detecting any significant difference between wheel speeds during heavy braking, this optional system helps maintain continued progress by automatically reducing brake force to the appropriate wheel. Electronic Traction Control is included in this option.
Defender has a choice of two entertainment systems, the first includes radio, CD player and MP3 player connectivity, with the second system having the added benefit of Bluetooth® wireless connectivity with audio streaming. For a further enhanced in-car sound experience, an upgraded system with superior speakers and subwoofer (150W) is also available.
The Bluetooth® word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Land Rover is under licence.
Option Packs and specialised accessories can add even more capability, individuality and style to any Defender. They offer a real opportunity to make it truly your Defender.

The results here do not express or imply any guarantee of the fuel consumption of any particular vehicle which this information may be supplied. Vehicles are not individually tested, and there are inevitably differences between individal vehicles of the same model. In addition, the vehicle may incorporate particular modifications. Furthermore, the driver's style and road traffic conditions, as well as the extent to which te vehicle has been driven and the standard of the maintenance will all affect its fuel consumption.
We take our responsibility to the environment very seriously with an integrated and innovative strategy we call Our Planet. Our plan is simple; to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and the production of man-made CO2 emissions, to use fewer resources and create less waste.
We do this by investing in four key areas areas designed to reduce our carbon footprint, support conservation and humanitarian collaborations and includes one of the world’s most comprehensive CO2 offset programmes.
CO2 Offsetting
Investing in renewable energy, technology change and energy efficiency projects. As well as offsetting CO2 emissions from the manufacturing assembly of Range Rover and Land Rover vehicles, our programme means customers can also offset the first 45,000 miles of driving their new Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles.
e_TERRAIN TECHNOLOGIES
A joint £800m investment into new technologies designed to reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel consumption. We are targeting a 25 percent reduction in joint fleet average tailpipe CO2 emissions by 2015, as part of our carbon management plan. Range Rover Evoque has been accredited to ISO14040, a whole life assessment that measures the vehicles environmental impact from manufacturing to use.
Sustainable Manufacturing
World class manufacturing facilities, certified to ISO14001 since 1998. As a company we are targeting a 25 percent reduction in operating CO2 emissions by 2012, 25 percent in waste to landfill and 10 percent in water consumption, based off 2007 levels. Our initiatives include factory energy efficiencies, cutting transport miles and offsetting all CO2 emissions from manufacturing assembly process.
Conservation and Humanitarian Projects
Land Rover is proud to work in close co-operation with five leading conservation partners and actively supports numerous projects around the world.
