In a highly competitive sector and despite tough competition from a whole host of new models, the Freelander 2 has triumphed once again. As WHATCAR? Group Editor Steve Fowler states, "it´s a true off-roader, but is comfortable and civilised for everyday use."

Land Rover MD Phil Popham was delighted, citing the "recognition of the continued relevance of our vehicles and their class-leading versatility."

This prestigious award comes after a series of demanding road tests and off-road challenges devised by the Top Gear Team, whilst being driven from Mumbai to Goa and back again for the awards photo shoot.

Top Gear magazine editor, Michael Harvey was full of praise for Freelander 2, saying: "It performed faultlessly, carrying the Top Gear team and a pile of photographic equipment through 2,000km of the busiest, roughest and most dangerous roads on Earth."

In addition, he noted that "Freelander 2 had everything needed for a long and challenging journey including comfort, style and safety."
