ENGINES AND DRIVING QUALITY
The Freelander 2 is one of the most complete vehicles in its class and matches the refinement usually associated with premium saloon cars. With exceptional on-road and off-road performance, it offers a truly great drive. The independent suspension with long wheel travel, coupled with the exceptionally stiff body structure, delivers agile handling with outstanding ride comfort. Added to this, Freelander 2 introduces two all-new power units which deliver a perfect balance of performance, refinement and fuel economy.
Petrol Engine

The 3.2 litre i6 petrol engine (233PS/171kW) combines high levels of Torque with real refinement. 80% of the maximum Torque is available across the rev range to offer smooth cruising on long journeys and lively acceleration - 0-60mph in 8.4 seconds (0-100kph in 8.9 seconds). The standard 6-speed automatic transmission features CommandShift™ offering manual sequential gear changes and driver-selectable sports mode.
Diesel Engine
The 2.2 litre TD4 turbo diesel engine (160PS/118kW)* is both highly refined and economical, with a combined average fuel consumption of 37.7 mpg (7.5 l/100km). The variable-nozzle turbocharger helps deliver excellent response and huge mid-range Torque, whilst the latest common-rail injection system aids economy and refinement. A catalysed Diesel Particulate Filter is available to remove soot particles from the exhaust gas for an even cleaner-running vehicle.  A 6-speed manual transmission is standard with the option** of 6-speed automatic with CommandShift™.
Transmission
Power is nothing without control. With sophisticated 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes you can face any on or off-road driving situation with supreme confidence. Standard on petrol models, and optional on diesel*, Freelander 2 is fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission with CommandShift™ that cleverly adapts to the individual driver´s style. It offers manual sequential gear changes and a driver-selectable sports mode.
