From 18 September 2006 you must use the correct car seat for your child. Children under 3 years of age MUST use the correct child restraint appropriate for their weight. Rear facing child seats MUST NOT be used in a passenger seat protected by an active airbag. A child from their 3rd birthday up to 135cm in height (approximately 4ft 5ins) or 12th birthday (whichever they reach first) must use the appropriate child seat according to their weight. For children over 135cm and aged 12 or 13 years the vehicle´s seat belt must be worn. Important note:
It is the driver´s legal responsibility to make sure that children under 14 years of age use child restraints or wear seat belts as appropriate.
