Engineers at Land Rover studied 50 different driving surfaces and concluded that most could be boiled down into a handful of categories. The result of this study is Terrain Response. Terrain Response puts everything Land Rover has learned about maximizing traction on virtually any driving surface directly at your fingertips. This patented dynamic system allows you to travel safely and smoothly everyday, whether you´re going to work or going on an adventure.
Always "on," the General setting is for everyday use. Much like the "automatic" setting on a digital camera the General setting provides the broadest range of functions for most driving conditions including easy off-road situations.
When you need precise control in difficult driving conditions, select one of the five intuitive programs uniquely tailored to different terrains: (1) Dynamic Program (unique to the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged); (2) Grass, Gravel and Snow; (3) Mud and Ruts; (4) Sand; or (5) Rock Crawl.*
With its breadth of capabilities, Terrain Response enhances your everyday driving experience and successfully tackles extreme off-road conditions with ease.
General
Terrain Response is never "off," and the General setting is compatible with all on- and off-road conditions. Terrain Response will automatically react to road conditions and make multiple adjustments to give you precise control.
Dynamic Program
On the 2010 Range Rover Sport Supercharged model, the Terrain Response® system includes the new Dynamic Program option, which gives an on-road focus to the vehicle's settings. Driving with the Dynamic Program setting provides a more engaging drive in all conditions.
Grass/Gravel/Snow
Select this program and you´ll maximize traction on firm but slippery surfaces. Wet leaves and grass or hard-packed snow and ice are the perfect conditions for this setting.
Mud/Ruts
This setting can make a dramatic difference on soft, wet ground where some degree of wheel-spin is important in order to maintain vehicle momentum. Since Low Range is recommended here, you´ll be prompted to switch the transfer gearbox selector when you select this program.
Sand
The title says it all. This setting gives you additional control in dry, soft sand or loose dirt. With dramatic adjustments to the engine, transmission, traction control and differential lock programming, the Sand setting helps you power through desert conditions with ease.
Rock Crawl*
Available only in Low Range, Rock Crawl should be used when you expect to encounter clusters of boulders or other large obstacles where maximum wheel articulation, ground clearance and low-speed traction are absolutely critical.
*Available on LR3, LR4, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover. Note: Terrain Response cannot regulate all the factors that influence vehicle control. Please practice safe driving techniques.
