Land Rover is pleased to announce its support of the Cathy Freedman Foundation (CFF) on Palm Island. The company has provided a Land Rover Freelander 2 to assist staff on community outreach programs, focused on giving Australian Indigenous children a brighter future through education. On Thursday 29 March, Land Rover will hand over the keys to Sonya Stephen, CEO of the Cathy Freeman Foundation, at Pallarenda Foreshore.
“Land Rover have given us the mobility to drive literacy and school achievement rates in the right direction. We consistently attempt to engage with all sectors of the community and given the size and geographical dispersion of the population, it is critical that we have motor vehicle access to be able to link with the whole of community.” says Ms Stephen.
By supporting the CFF programs, the Land Rover Freelander 2 will assist CFF’s local Palm Islander staff to increase the education outcomes of over 500 school-aged children and enable them to conduct their daily activities and education programs more efficiently and effectively.
The CFF was established in 2007 and has since focused its work on Palm Island, one of the largest remote Indigenous communities and the fourth most disadvantaged community in Australia .
Founder and Director of the Cathy Freeman Foundation, Olympic gold-medallist, Cathy Freeman has a strong personal connection with Palm Island as it was the birthplace of her mother and grandmother. Cathy is well acquainted with the education, social and health challenges that the Island’s community faces. The Foundation is determined to assist its population to rise to meet these challenges, and to ultimately bridge the education gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous children.
