DRIVING TECHNOLOGY
It´s as comfortable as it is rewarding. The Freelander 2 surpasses many compact premium saloons – let alone rival 4x4s – due to its supple long-travel suspension. So wherever you travel, your ride is a smooth one. Excellent ride and handling provide real driver confidence for sporty on-road driving. The wheel-out stance and wide track help deliver agility and great grip. And the responsive steering is direct and fluid, so it´s immensely rewarding. The supple suspension system, with front and rear coil-sprung struts, is fully independent, while rack-and-pinion steering, adjustable for reach and rake, helps ensure a responsive drive.
Terrain Response™

When the conditions get tough, Land Rover´s patented Terrain Response™ technology, standard on all Freelander 2, helps you to tackle them safely. All electronic systems in the Freelander 2 adjust automatically, to provide optimum performance over challenging terrains. Terrain Response™ adapts the settings of the vehicle´s engine, gearbox, centre coupling and chassis systems to match the demands of the terrain. Just turn the dial to the appropriate icon and you´ll have all our driving expertise at your fingertips.

• General Driving – for most on-road driving and light off-road conditions
• Grass/Gravel/Snow – for slippery conditions, on and off-road
• Mud and Ruts – for rain-soaked fields and country tracks
• Sand – for beaches and dunes

Intelligent 4WD
An innovative full-time intelligent 4x4 system is fundamental to delivering the Freelander 2´s class-leading breadth of capability. The electronic centre coupling, with unique pre-charge functionality for an even smoother pull away on slippery surfaces, continuously varies the drive front and rear to suit conditions, whilst giving better on-road fuel economy. Using any one of four different settings, Land Rover´s unique Terrain Response™ optimises driveability and comfort. It also maximises Traction through the car´s electronic management systems and Traction aids. Whenever you need the capabilities of the Freelander 2, they are ready for you.
All Weather
Whichever way you look at it, Freelander 2 is engineered to perform in the most extreme weather conditions. Whether it´s the frozen Alaskan tundra, the searing heat of the Dubai desert or up to 95% relative humidity, it´s all the same to this definitive all-weather vehicle. And no matter what the weather´s doing outside, you´ll always feel cool and comfortable inside the Freelander 2. That´s thanks to an advanced dual zone Automatic Temperature Control air conditioning system, with pollen filter.
All Terrains
Tarmac, cobble stones, gravel, grass, mud, snow, ice, sand, ruts. We thought of all of them – in fact, almost every road, track or driving surface you might reasonably encounter – and designed a vehicle capable of taking them on. We´ve also considered the extreme weather conditions you might face – which is why Freelander 2 has a minimum 210mm ground clearance and a wading depth of up to 500mm. All this helps ensure a comfortable and safe ride, no matter how tough the terrain.
Tackle hills without a second thought. Our gradient release control system, a first for Land Rover, guarantees smooth hill starts whether ascending or descending. Release the foot brake and it enables the latest generation Hill Descent Control to engage smoothly and easily. On re-starting a hill ascent, you´ll enjoy improved control with a progressive brake release. Anti-lock brakes and all-round large disc brakes add further to the vehicle´s stability and your own driving confidence.
On-road Capabilities
Freelander 2´s control systems provide greater confidence on-road. The Roll Stability Control (RSC) system in Freelander 2 is the most sophisticated roll-over prevention technology ever fitted to a Land Rover. It monitors wheel speed and steering wheel angle and uses an innovative vehicle tilt sensor to deliver a rapid response. Meanwhile, new-generation Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) reacts quickly if the car isn´t responding correctly to your steering. This system intervenes in less than 10 milliseconds to adjust the vehicle´s course and cornering. It particularly helps the driver to maintain control in skid conditions.
